the parent is the child's first teacher,

Emergent Writing
Emergent writing is when a child begins to understand that writing is a form of communication and that the marks on the page have meaning. Emergent writing is predominantly pretend and a child's background or where they live does not affect the process of learning to write. Pretend writing will spontaneously occur where there is encouragement, modeling, and play that incorporates writing from adults. Emergent writing usually presents itself in a series of stages. the image to the right shows the general evolution of writing.
