"The home is the child's first school,
the parent is the child's first teacher,
and reading is a child's first subject."

ORAL LANGUAGE

Oral language is a complex system that relates sounds to meaning. Every child is ready for positive experiences with language starting at birth.

Once a child develops authentic speech, the child understands that the purpose of language is to communicate. When a child is given positive feedback for creating language, he/she will become more motivated to continue to explore with language. Adults can help by talking to children and holding important conversations. By age 3, if a child’s language is not fully developed because of the lack of exposure and experience, they may already be at risk for struggling with reading and writing.
Take an active role in your child's learning by talking, laughing and playing with them!
